(ii) Write reasons for the following statements.
(a) Friends came knocking all day at the poet’s door.
- When the poet was rich at that time he had many friends. They were always around and were friendly with him. But according to the poet they were knocking door or connected because of his wealth. Those were false friends.
(b) Poor men’s wives hum like bees.
- The poor men are satisfied in their life. They only think about their daily bread and butter. They do not accumulate wealth or think on protecting money. They and their wives are busy in their daily works and satisfied in their life.
(iii) Money makes the world go round. Explain it in the light of the poet’s experience.
- ‘Money makes the world go round,’ is truly said. Every man needs money but a few are satisfied. When the poet was rich, he had many friends. But they were false friends. He was unable to enjoy money. He had to safeguard it. But when he was poor he could enjoy his life.
(iv) Poor men need not go up so much as rich men should come down. Express your views regarding this statement.
- Poor men always think about their daily bread and butter. They work hard, live simple life and are satisfied too in their lives. They don’t think about unnecessary things. On the contrary rich men’s life style is quite different from poor men. Their necessities are beyond the necessities of poor man. But they are not happy and always worry about the safety about their wealth. So poor men need not go up so much as rich men should come down.
